Several years later faro was also outlawed in Europe. Historyįaro was first played in France during the 18th century after a similar game, known as basset, had been outlawed. Faro first originated in Europe, then after several years became popular in America also. It is played with only a single deck of cards. The game accommodates any number of players and usually takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. Faro is different than poker, but it was just as popular because it is fast-paced, the rules are easy to follow, and the odds of winning are much higher than poker.
